At The Victorian Press, we are deeply saddened by the passing of former President Mr S R Nathan on 22 August 2016.
Our national and school flags will fly at half-mast in mourning from 22 to 26 August (Tuesday to Friday). A moment of silence was observed at the Parade Square on Tuesday morning in honour of Mr Nathan, and a sharing on his life will be conducted on Friday by our Principal Ms Ek Soo Ben.
Throughout his life, Mr Nathan has been an inspiration for all of us as Victorians, having gone through a lifetime of trials and tribulations to serve the country in numerous ways, always putting nation above self, culminating in his appointment as Singapore’s sixth and longest-serving President.
Mr Nathan considered himself as having been a part of our Victorian family. He has made significant contributions to the Victorian community, such as by gracing our 19th College Day with his presence, and through the S R Nathan–OVA Scholarship. As such, his passing is certainly a loss to the Victorian family and he will be dearly missed.
We thank Mr Nathan for his patronage and we hope all Victorians will strive to emulate the spirit of service and duty that he stood for. We also express our sincere condolences to Mrs Nathan and family; our thoughts are with you in this time of grief.
Rest in peace Mr Nathan. Yours was a life well lived.
Nil Sine Labore.
