Overview of Volleyball
Volleyball is a game that comprises of 3 touches, usually a dig, set and spike. More than just preventing the ball from touching the ground, volleyball is a team sport that requires conscientious effort from everyone on court to accomplish ambitious goals and achieve victory.
Is there something about your CCA you and your fellow members think most people are unaware of that you feel needs to be shared to them?
I believe that most people are unaware of how much of a team sport volleyball is. Unlike some team sports, whereby a player of high enough caliber can choose to single handedly take over the game, that cannot be accomplished in volleyball. With only 3 touches per play, every player has the responsibility of executing each move well and every touch translates to how the next pans out. It strongly depends on working together as a team, along with a high degree of concentration required on both the individual and team’s parts. Playing volleyball means being part of something bigger than yourself. This unique characteristic of the sport also serves to forge greater ties with your fellow teammates in order to be a collective unit.
How often do you have your trainings?
We have trainings three times a week, with each session lasting 3 hours.
Would you like to give us a glimpse of what trainings are usually like?
We usually start training with ball drills followed by a game, before concluding it with physical training or vice versa.
With volleyball being a game that heavily relies on team communication, we are required to be vocal during our drills and games, in order to ensure all of us on court are on alert and can look out for one another.
However, putting the serious stuff aside, our training sessions are truly enjoyable and exciting at the same time! During practices, active cheering by our teammates can be heard when plays are executed well. Even if the opposite occurs, our positive spirit never dies as we will exchange words of encouragement with one another.
Thus, this creates a noisy, fun and welcoming atmosphere during our training sessions, where each one of us can play the game to our heart’s content while striving to improve our skills and better our performances.
More about Volleyball
Why did you choose to join this CCA?
Well..I joined this CCA due to DSA (Direct School Admission).
What would you consider to be the highlight of your CCA journey thus far?
This may sound cringey, but for me, I would really have to say that being a part of the VJVB family was, has been and will continue to be the highlight of my CCA journey!
What about the CCA culture? What’s it like?
Every single one of VJVB plays a significant role in pushing the team forward and we believe that this aspect is what ties everyone so closely together. As we continue to delve into the games, we forge strong bonds and camaraderie, which is something VJVB holds dearly. Also, we firmly uphold the motto of ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM, chasing a single goal with a single unit.
In a Nutshell
To the incoming batch of juniors who will be busy pondering over the issue of CCA selection, what words would you give to those who may be keen on entering your CCA family?
Volleyball can be one of the toughest sports to pick up, considering the array of skills and techniques required for us to develop, which undoubtedly takes a huge amount of dedication and consistency if you are just starting out. However, if you are willing to take up the challenge (and I hope y’all are willing!), we hope that you’ll be able to experience and gain as much as us during our time spent with the VJVB family.
We sincerely hope that you’ll join us and further our team to greater heights!
